The Vintages
The Vintages

It is the vintage that makes a wine collectable and it takes skill, daring and an intimate knowledge of fine wines to back the right vintage. As vintages are constantly being reassessed, a popular vintage may ultimately disappoint whereas a year that was determined to be average may achieve stardom.

The variable climate, changeable sunshine and unpredictable rain patterns can result in vast differences in the Bordeaux reds vintages from one year to the next. This is a significant part of what makes Bordeaux so fascinating to wine connoisseurs, and what maintains investors interest. Each time that a good vintage is consumed there are fewer in existence and as a result the other bottles become a more valuable commodity.

For example, the 1982 vintage produced some of the best Bordeaux wines to date, and are prized commodities. The 2000 and 2005 vintages have more recently gained critical acclaim.
